About | Magda Herrera Therapy

Hi, I’m Magda.

I am a bilingual, Spanish-speaking  therapist.

My primary theoretical approach to treatment is Psychodynamic Therapy which is a depth-oriented lens that explores past experiences as a way of understanding the roots of why we behave and believe the things we do in the present. I also bring in a range of other evidence-based models based on each client’s individual needs. Narrative Therapy focuses on the stories we tell ourselves about who we are/supposed to be and this approach explores how we can modify or expand these stories to give us different outcomes in our lives. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is centered around adjusting thoughts and behaviors to change our feelings and stop unhealthy patterns.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from California State University, Northridge. Thereafter, I received a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch University Los Angeles, where I graduated with Honors. Over the course of my graduate work, I received formal training at Airport Marina Counseling Services in Westchester, CA, providing therapy to adults, adolescents, children, and families. I supported clients with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, domestic violence, family relational trauma, parenting, life transitions and interpersonal relationships.

I am a life-long learner! I believe that continuous training is important to provide my clients the highest level of care. I have completed Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. The Gottman Method aims to help couples build stronger and healthier relationships by improving communication, increasing intimacy, and resolving conflicts more effectively. I have completed a course in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) which is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. It successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with complex trauma experiences. In addition, I attend yearly conferences aimed and providing the latest research and information about various topics including couples work, anxiety and depression.

In my practice, I strive to provide a safe, comfortable experience where you can let go and explore you.

Welcome!
